Six Winter Fashion Essentials for 2017

Jul 31 2017 by Nicole

Every season will see me add few fashion essentials to my wardrobe. Not huge amounts, I think a good five or six should keep you in style and not break any budgets. I’ve outlined my top six winter fashion essentials for 2017 which includes one investment piece (this year my piggy bank allows it) and a few cheaper items that coordinate with my existing wardrobe and give it an on-trend boost.

Making sure I’m adding extra fashion goodies that match my exiting wardrobe means that I am making my wardrobe work for my everyday… which is:

  • 40% Mummy Nicsy
  • 15%, exercise chic Nicsy (don’t know what THAT is? Read my article here: Exercise Chic)
  • 40% corporate Nicsy; and
  • 40% video production + social media small-business-Nicsy…

Yes. I know that is 135%… but what working mama doesn’t squeeze more than humanly possible into every week?

Anyhoo, here are the six winter fashion essentials that I have added this year:

1. The Statement Sweater

I love a good statement tee, so it’s no real surprise that I love a statement sweater too. Pop one of these on with your torn jeans and sneakers for a more casual look or with some leather pants and heels to hit the town.

ASOS Funday Jumper $45, Markus Lufter Cherry Motif Jumper, $457, Stars Collide Knit $57.

2. The Fur Vest

For the functionality (WARM!) and the style factor alone, I’m adding another fur vest to my arsenal this year. These vests are great as a statement on their own or as a fabulously warm layering piece. It’s a win all round.

I’ve had my black one for about a year now and wear it almost every single day… so now its time to add a little bit of variety. It was a hard choice between dark blue, maroon and grey, especially because navy is my absolute favourite colour and maroon is HOT for this winter. But because this is my investment piece for this winter I decided to go for a colour that will go the long haul… so I have ordered the Collier Fur Vest in Ink from Mode & Affaire  (READ about our love for this fabulous local brand here: Winter Style Essential Mode & Affaire).

3. The Long Grey Jacket

A long grey coat looks completely chic with jeans and sneakers (SNEANING!!) or with a stunning black dress and heels. You are probably starting to see a pattern in my purchases. Must be able to work double duty as casual comfy and dressed-up chic.

Ideally I would have LOVED to get both the Witchery and the Country Road coats too (below)…. because they are fabulous. I let my budget brain win as I already chose my investment piece in the fur vest. I still love my amazing find from H&M – and only $80 smack-a-roonies!!

I snagged this H&M Long Grey Coat for $80!!

4. The Ankle Boot

This one is almost stating the obvious… I love an ankle boot  and I have several in my collection. But of course I NEED a slightly more casual, and lower heeled version for everyday. So I’ll be grabbing one of those. I have also been hovering over a country music styled bling version too… but I’m still making up my mind.

5. The Oversized Scarf

I like to be almost suffocated by a scarf it’s so long, big and cosy. Scarves are an ESSENTIAL winter item and by keeping your neck warm you will be at least five degrees warmer*.

This year I would swing towards one with either an animal print, tropical brights or a bit of metallic bling. If you find a metallic animal print GET IT – (and please tell me where I can get it too!!).

*I have a tendency for exaggeration and 90% of the time completely make up statistics.

6. The Bling Kicks

I love the Witchery sneakers with a little peek-a-boo of silver on the back of them and get a new pair almost every second year because I wear them to DEATH. But this year I’m like a bleary eyed magpie and am completely wooed by anything sparkly-darkly. Plus this is a sure fire way to start conversation and boost up a casual outfit.

And see what we found this year? SPARKLY BLINGY ANIMAL PRINT… I just died.
