George Michael sang about it back in the 80s and people tell you to keep it all the time. You know the drill, trust the timing, fortune favours the brave, have a little faith…blah, blah, blah!
Truth: I’ve been thinking of writing this article for a long time.
And no word of a lie, at exactly the moment I started typing, Faith started playing on the radio…I think it’s a sign that I’m meant to keep mine.
Everybody had this album. EVERYBODY!
Anyone who is looking for love will tell you that keeping the faith it’s really is out there for you is far and away the hardest part of being single. I know it is for me. But there’s something about giving up on things…nope, that just doesn’t work for me.
I’m a sunny side up kinda gal, the glass is half full not half empty, always look on the bright side of life; for me, not believing in the good times ahead…that just isn’t an option.
But it’s not just love you have to keep the faith in. It can be anything, that someone sick will get well, that your money troubles will subside, that your dream of having a family will come true, that your broken heart will mend and that you’ll make it through the rough stuff.
When you stop and think about it, we all take leaps of faith pretty much every day.
Getting in a car is having faith that everyone else on the road will do exactly what they’re meant to do, dropping the kids off at school means trusting the teachers and staff will look after them, paying for things on the Internet is having faith they’ll actually come in the mail, going on a first date is hoping that this could be the one and opening your own business is believing that people will like what you do. All big leaps of faith we’ve just become used to, and I guess that’s my point.
We actually do keep the faith all the time without even knowing it.
The thing about having faith is that even on the darkest of days you know that tomorrow will be a little bit brighter. Sure, I don’t have everything I want just yet, but I will. In good time. And there’s the rub, you literally can’t rush the good stuff. Why? Because you’re not in control of it silly, the Universe is and it won’t be rushed. So there.
We all have our own ways of keeping the faith; some people turn to religion, others wish upon a star, some people believe in superstitions, lucky colours, outfits and routines. Hell one of my besties even has lucky undies. Whatever works!
But sometimes you have to stop, take a deep breath and revel in the fact that something incredibly exciting could be waiting just around the corner for you. Trust in the serendipity of it all and let go. Easier said than done I know. Nic and I are quite possibly THE MOST impatient people in the world.
The amazing thing about life is that you never know what’s going to happen…good or bad, imagine if you did! Sometimes the things that happen to us are hard and horrible and we have no idea what we did to deserve them and sometimes they’re fun and fabulous and we can’t believe how lucky we are.
I hope your life has a little of both. Enough of the hard times, so you cherish the good ones and enough of the good times so you know the hard ones won’t last.
So yeah, George Michael was right, you do Gotta have Faith. Because really, what other option is there? How you keep yours, is up to you.
