The WAFAs were tutu fabulous…
In a week when Hollywood got its glitz and glam on for the Academy Awards, it seemed only fair that Perth should have its very own “Oscars” to celebrate the fashion industry.
The 18th Annual Western Australian Fashion Awards (WAFA) was held on Thursday night at The State Theatre Centre and it attracted an über stylish crowd wearing everything from show stopping full length sequin gowns to TST’s own Nic who rocked a custom-made tutu.

Perth Fashion Festival favourite Jaime Lee took home the coveted Most Innovative Designer of The Year Award. Joining her in the winner’s circle was Alister Yiap, who won the Fine Details award for accessory design, Varga Girl who won Best Dressed Boutique and Caitlin Lomax who was named International Model of the Year.

After the awards ceremony the crowd partied in to the night on the Heath Ledger Theatre stage which magically turned in to a bar after the winners were announced – genius!
WAFA was hosted this year by Channel 9’s news team, Tim McMillan and Sally Ayhan and was a true reflection of the myriad of talent that can be found in our great state.
Perth Fashion Festival Director Marielle Harvey-Hanrahan said the awards were an indication of the strength of the fashion industry in Perth.
“People are definitely starting to take notice of WA,” she said.
“The industry is growing rapidly and ‘Brand WA’ is getting stronger and stronger.”
