Some people have style in their DNA. One of those is stylist extraordinaire Des Eddy.
Des has been part of Perth’s fashion landscape for the past 30 years, he is the Fashion Editor at the Western Suburbs Weekly and a producer for iconic Perth fashion events such as PFF, Bridal Expo and ReStyle. Put simply he’s Mr Fashion.
On Thursday night he will host a Spring Summer Edit styling workshop at Claremont Quarter to guide women through the new seasons collections.
We bribed him with a bottle of bubbles to tell The Style Trust why finding your own style is so important and what’s hot for Spring Summer 13/14.
What will ladies learn at your Spring Summer Edit?
My aim is to bring to women’s attention to what’s hot and what’s not, where to find it and most importantly what’s right for you and your body type.
I’ll take you through which colours suit you and I’ll also show you how to mix and match and how to accessorise. Once you know the basics, it’s easy to create exciting outfits and amazing colour stories that will make you feel stylish and on-trend.
I’m also encouraging ladies to bring along their cameras and document their styles for future reference.
What’s big for Spring Summer 13/14, what can we look forward to?
For next season there will be a lot of white, a lot of monochrome, pretty florals, some metallics and lots of textures and ruffles. Graphic prints will still be big, but we won’t see quite as much bright colour, there will also be a nod to the 60s with micro hemlines and ladylike accessories making a come back.
Tell us the most common mistake most women make with fashion?
There are a few fashion crimes (call the police!) women make that are easy to fix.
One in particular is trying too hard, or wearing the latest fashions or styles regardless of whether they suit them or not. There are styles and fashions out there to suit everyone and in your heart of hearts you know when you get it wrong.
Trust yourself and how you feel in something. If short skirts are in and you haven’t got the legs for it don’t do it and please don’t wear sizes that are too small for you. It’s also a no-no to wear too many accessories and too much make-up.
Is the styling session for all ages?
My styling session is aimed at the 25 and over age group but caters to women from all walks of life from stay at home mums to executives looking to take the next career step or those who just want to try out a new look.
Spring Summer Edit with Des Eddy is on Thursday, August 22 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. All spaces are now full, but don’t despair you can always book a personal styling session with Des or check out The Quarter’s other style workshops in the Spring Summer Series.
